The CHICAGO-LATROBE 52435 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose portable drilling in wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The bit measures 35/64 inch (0.5469 inch decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank and a 118-degree split point for positive starting without a center punch. Manufactured from high speed steel with a coated finish for wear resistance, the 52435 is built for production and job-site use where a full-size shank would not fit standard 1/2 inch chuck tooling. Technicians and tradespeople working with portable drills will find this geometry reliable across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
The 52435 belongs to the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 190F and is suited to portable drilling operations in residential and light commercial construction, mechanical, and fabrication environments. Its reduced shank design allows the larger cutting diameter to be driven by a standard 1/2 inch chuck, making it practical for field service and maintenance drilling where dedicated large-chuck equipment is not available. The right-hand spiral flute geometry clears chips efficiently during through-hole drilling in the listed workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose replacement drill bit for use in any portable drill or drill press accepting a 1/2 inch Weldon shank. Suitable for wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpiece materials as noted in the product specifications.
Install and remove drill bits only after the drill or drill press is fully de-energized and the chuck has stopped rotating. Secure the Weldon shank firmly in the chuck, confirming that at least one flat engages the chuck set screw to prevent rotational slipping under load. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Follow applicable OSHA and facility safety standards for portable power tool operation.
