Product Description

The CHICAGO-LATROBE 52433 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for portable drilling operations across a range of materials including wood, carbon steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. The bit measures 33/64 inch (0.5156 inch decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank featuring three flats for positive drive and reduced slip under load. The 118-degree split point geometry promotes faster penetration and reduces walking on entry. Manufactured from high speed steel with a coated finish, the 52433 suits general-purpose production and maintenance drilling where a standard straight shank would not fit the available chuck.

This drill bit is built for field and shop use where a 1/2 inch drill motor or drill press is the primary machine. The Weldon shank design makes it a reliable choice for portable right-angle drills and magnetic drill presses commonly used in steel fabrication, mechanical contracting, and general construction trades. The reduced shank allows a larger cutting diameter than the shank itself, extending the range of a standard 1/2 inch capacity chuck. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix provide consistent chip evacuation across the full 3-1/8 inch flute length.

Key Features

  • 33/64 inch cutting diameter with a diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0012 inches for consistent hole sizing
  • Weldon shank with 3 flats eliminates rotational slip in drill chucks and quick-change holders
  • 118-degree split point reduces thrust and improves center accuracy on entry
  • High speed steel construction handles intermittent cuts in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and wood
  • Coated finish provides added surface hardness and lubricity to extend service life
  • Right-hand cut, 2-flute spiral design promotes efficient chip removal during portable drilling

Compatibility

Designed for use with 1/2 inch capacity portable drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills that accept Weldon shank tooling. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 190F reduced shank drill line.

Installation Notes

Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists, tool and die technicians, ironworkers, or mechanical contractors familiar with drill bit selection and safe drilling practices. Secure the Weldon shank fully into the chuck or holder and tighten set screws against the flats before applying load. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during drilling. No coolant is required per manufacturer specification, but appropriate cutting speed and feed rates for the workpiece material should be observed to avoid premature tool wear.
