The CHICAGO-LATROBE 50536 is an extra length high speed steel drill bit engineered for long reach drilling applications where standard length bits cannot access the work zone. Measuring 0.3906 inches in diameter with a 10-inch overall length and a 7.5-inch flute length, this bit delivers extended reach without sacrificing rigidity for its class. The oxide finish provides moderate lubricity and corrosion resistance during cutting operations. A notched, web-thinned point geometry at 118 degrees reduces thrust at entry and improves chip evacuation. The tapered web configuration adds column strength along the flute length. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics select this bit for structural fabrication, deep-bore work, and production drilling in cast iron and steel.
The 50536 is suited to production and maintenance drilling in ferrous materials including cast iron and steel. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks on drill presses, milling machines, and handheld power drills. The 10-inch overall length makes it a practical choice for drilling through thick workpieces, deep cavities, or stacked material where a jobber-length bit would bottom out in the chuck before the point reaches depth. Series 120X positioning targets general-purpose long-reach applications in industrial, HVAC, and mechanical trades.
Designed as a general-purpose long-reach replacement or supplemental drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.3906-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel per Series 120X specifications.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the chuck jaws and tighten with a chuck key before starting the machine. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous materials to extend tool life and maintain dimensional tolerance. Inspect the point geometry before each use and discard bits showing chipped cutting edges or signs of heat checking.
