The CHICAGO-LATROBE 50419 is a taper length, high speed steel twist drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication environments. It measures 0.3480 inches in diameter, equivalent to Letter Size S, with a 118-degree standard point angle and a regular spiral flute. The extended taper length body — 6.75 inches overall with a 4.25-inch flute — provides additional reach compared to jobber-length bits without sacrificing rigidity. An oxide finish improves lubricity and surface hardness. Right-hand cutting direction and a straight shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and machine spindles. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation in deeper holes.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in industrial and commercial settings. Typical applications include structural fabrication shops, machine shops, and maintenance facilities where deeper hole access is required. The Series 120 taper length geometry is a common choice when jobber-length bits cannot reach a fastener location or when drilling through thicker stock. Licensed machinists and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this type of tooling.
Designed as a general purpose OEM-style taper length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks on drill presses, lathes, and milling machine setups. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces.
This bit is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians in a compatible straight-shank drill chuck. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit. Secure the shank with adequate chuck depth to prevent slippage under load. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance.
