The CHICAGO-LATROBE 50307 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals and other common industrial materials. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it offers a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces entry resistance and improves chip flow. The straight shank measures 0.1730 inches in diameter, matching wire size 17. With an overall length of 5.75 inches and a flute length of 3.375 inches, this bit is suited for applications requiring reach beyond what a jobber-length drill provides. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute. Used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or MRO environments.
This drill bit is intended for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The taper length body gives additional reach for deeper holes or workpieces where a standard jobber bit comes up short. It fits conventional drill chucks and CNC drilling machines that accept straight-shank tooling at 0.1730-inch shank diameter. Sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 12 units. Appropriate for both bench drill presses and handheld drilling applications where the chuck can accommodate the shank diameter.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Fits any drill chuck or machine spindle accepting a 0.1730-inch straight shank.
This bit should be installed and operated by machinists or qualified technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable workplace safety standards when operating drilling equipment. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the material being drilled, as this can cause premature tool wear or breakage.
