The CHICAGO-LATROBE 50077 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit handles the elevated heat and cutting forces common when drilling titanium, stainless steel, and other tough alloys. It measures 35/64 inches in diameter with a 6-5/8 inch overall length and a 4-13/16 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. A web-thinned, tapered web construction improves chip evacuation and cutting efficiency. This is a heavy-duty tool intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working in demanding production or MRO environments.
The 50077 is built for drilling titanium and similarly difficult workpiece materials where standard HSS bits fail prematurely or overheat. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders. The Series 550 designation places this bit in CHICAGO-LATROBE's heavy-duty cobalt line, which conforms to DIN 338 and NAS 907 Type J standards. Typical applications include aerospace component fabrication, industrial maintenance, and precision metalworking where consistent hole diameter tolerance is required. The diameter tolerance is held to -0.0012 to 0.0000 inches for close-tolerance hole quality.
Primary workpiece material is titanium per NAS 907 specification. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks accepting a 35/64 inch shank. Conforms to DIN 338 and NAS 907 Type J, making this bit a drop-in fit wherever those standards are called out.
Install and remove this drill bit with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. When drilling titanium or other hard alloys, use appropriate cutting fluid to manage heat and extend tool life.
