The CHICAGO-LATROBE 49764 is a taper length high speed steel drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous metals and general-purpose shop applications. It has a 1-inch diameter, a 118-degree standard point angle, and an 11-inch overall length, placing it in the longer-than-jobber taper length category for deeper hole applications. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently, and the web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust and improves penetration on entry. A coated finish extends surface hardness and resists heat buildup during extended run times. This bit is sold individually and is sized to fit standard 1-inch straight-shank toolholders and drill chucks.
The 49764 is suited for use in radial arm drills, drill presses, and milling machines where additional flute and body length are needed to reach full depth without repositioning. Series 120 taper length geometry is appropriate for through-hole and deep-hole work in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The straight shank with a 1-inch shank diameter and 4.625-inch shank length seats securely in most standard drill press chucks and machine collets. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary installers of this bit in shop and field settings.
Designed for use in applications involving alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Fits standard 1-inch straight-shank drill chucks and toolholders. Series 120 taper length format is a general-purpose classification for drill presses, radial drills, and milling machines requiring extended reach.
This bit should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with machine tool operation. Secure the straight shank fully in a properly rated drill chuck or toolholder before operation, and confirm runout with a dial indicator when tight tolerances are required. Coolant through is not supported on this bit, so adequate surface-applied cutting fluid should be used when drilling steel at depth. Inspect the cutting edges and web condition before each use and regrind or replace when wear affects hole quality or increases thrust noticeably.
