The CHICAGO-LATROBE 49755 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit measures 55/64 inch (0.8594 inches) in diameter and carries a standard 118-degree point angle with web thinning for easier penetration. The overall length is 10 inches with a 6.125-inch spiral flute, giving it extra reach compared to jobber-length bits. It features a straight shank and right-hand cut, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and CNC setups. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians typically reach for this bit when jobber-length tools lack the reach for deeper-hole applications.
The 49755 is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in both production and maintenance environments. Its taper length geometry makes it a practical choice for drilling deep holes in fixtures, structural components, or fabricated assemblies where standard-length bits fall short. The regular spiral flute profile promotes chip evacuation in these materials. The straight shank allows direct mounting in drill press chucks, milling machine collets, or CNC tool holders without adapters. This bit is sold individually and is part of Chicago-Latrobe Series 120.
Rated for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Fits standard drill press chucks, milling machine collets, and CNC tool holders accepting a 0.8594-inch straight shank. Part of the Chicago-Latrobe Series 120 taper length drill line.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified trade personnel familiar with drilling equipment and safe machine operation. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before drilling. Always bring spindle speed and feed rate in line with the workpiece material and bit diameter before starting the cut. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when operating drill equipment.
