Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 0.9531 inches (61/64 inch) in diameter and features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust at entry. The straight-cylindrical shank and regular spiral flute geometry keep the bit stable in chuck-style holders. At 5.875 inches overall length with a 3.875-inch flute length, this is a stub-length configuration that offers greater rigidity than jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drilling on manual mills, drill presses, and screw machine applications.
The 48561 is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel, covering the primary workpiece materials common in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments. The two-flute spiral design promotes chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Series 157 bits are positioned as a general-purpose tool, appropriate for operators who need consistent performance across a range of material hardnesses without specialty coatings or point geometries. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous workpieces unless dry cutting is specified for the material.
