The CHICAGO-LATROBE 48411 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in cast iron and steel. It measures 0.096 inches (Wire Size 41) in diameter and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows drilling to start without a center punch. Constructed from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit resists heat and wear during high-cycle production work. The web-thinned, parallel web construction reduces thrust requirements and improves chip clearance. Overall length is 1-13/16 inches with a 13/16-inch flute length, making it compact enough for tight-clearance applications on drill presses and screw machines. This is a single-piece package.
The 48411 is suited for production drilling, machine shop work, and maintenance environments where shorter, stiffer bit geometry is required to minimize deflection. The screw machine length format is standard for turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and gang drill setups where extended reach is not needed. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel. The right-hand spiral flute and straight-cylindrical shank fit standard drill chucks without modification. Minimum order quantity is 12 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production drill bit for use in standard drill chucks, turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and gang drill setups that accept a straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for cast iron and steel workpiece materials per Series 2159 specifications.
Machinist or tool-and-die professionals typically install and operate this bit. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify runout before production runs. Follow applicable shop safety and machine guarding practices when operating drill presses or CNC equipment. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace when diameter tolerance or point geometry can no longer be maintained.
