The CHICAGO-LATROBE 48205 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in cast iron and steel. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction improves chip evacuation through two spiral flutes. At 5/64 inch (0.0781 inches) diameter, it is sized for precision work in tight-clearance applications. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. Series 2159 is manufactured to NAS 907 specification and conforms to ISO standards for dimensional accuracy.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance work on ferrous metals, including cast iron and steel stock. The screw machine length body is shorter than a jobber-length bit, making it the preferred choice when rigidity matters and when drilling in confined spaces or on drill presses with limited travel. It is commonly used in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance environments where consistent, repeatable hole quality is required. The right-hand cut and regular spiral flute geometry are appropriate for conventional drilling operations on standard ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed for drilling cast iron and steel. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 5/64 inch diameter. Suited for use on drill presses, CNC drilling equipment, and hand-held power drills in industrial and maintenance applications.
Installation of this bit requires a compatible drill chuck sized to accept a straight-cylindrical shank. Ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and the drill is set to a speed appropriate for the material and bit diameter before beginning. Secure the bit fully in the chuck and inspect for runout before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety procedures when operating drilling equipment.
