The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47705 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. It measures 5/64 inch (0.0781 inch) in diameter with a 2.0 inch overall length and a 1.0 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard surfaces. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating reduces friction and extends tool life. This bit is built to NAS 907 Type B standards and is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations performed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and metal fabrication professionals.
The 47705 is engineered for drilling titanium and other hard metals where standard high-speed steel bits lose their edge quickly. Its cobalt construction handles elevated cutting temperatures without premature dulling. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders across benchtop drill presses, CNC machines, and handheld power drills. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling on thin-gauge and medium-gauge stock. Typical applications include aerospace fabrication, metal maintenance, and precision drilling in production environments where dimensional tolerance is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for NAS 907 Type B Series 550ASP jobber-length cobalt drill bits in the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter range. Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 5/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling titanium and high-alloy materials to manage heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the workpiece material, as cobalt bits can fracture under excessive side load or shock.
