The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47646 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. It features a 135-degree split point that starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on entry. The bit carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. With a 5/16 inch diameter and 4.5 inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and drill presses used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication and industrial service environments.
This bit is rated for drilling titanium as its primary workpiece material and is built to NAS 907 Type B standards, making it a legitimate choice for aerospace-adjacent and precision metalworking applications. It is equally suited for stainless steel, high-alloy steels, and other tough ferrous and non-ferrous metals encountered in mechanical and industrial trade work. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters. Sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit jobber drill for use in standard 3/8 inch or larger keyed and keyless drill chucks, drill presses, and CNC drilling operations requiring a 5/16 inch diameter cobalt bit with a straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is titanium per manufacturer specification.
Installation is performed by machinists and industrial trade technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or CNC spindles. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation. Always match spindle speed to the workpiece material and bit diameter using published feeds-and-speeds references for cobalt tooling. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece firmly to prevent rotation during drilling.
