The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47372 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in professional and industrial applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit measures 16 mm (0.6299 inches) in diameter and carries an overall length of 178 mm (7.008 inches). The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve centering on entry. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently during drilling. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in fabrication, mechanical, and maintenance trades rely on this series for consistent performance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous base materials.
The 47372 is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand-held power drills, and magnetic base drills. With a flute length of 120 mm (4.724 inches) and a shank length of 58 mm (2.283 inches), this bit handles moderate-depth holes without excessive deflection. Series 150 construction follows DIN 338 standards, making it a recognized specification in shops that maintain tooling catalogs by international standard.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit per DIN 338 for use in standard three-jaw chucks. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists, maintenance technicians, or tradespeople familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the chuck is fully tightened on the straight shank before powering the spindle. Follow appropriate machine guarding and eye protection requirements per OSHA and shop safety standards. Do not exceed the recommended spindle speed for the material and bit diameter to avoid overheating and premature edge wear.
