The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47357 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron and steel. It is manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating that reduces friction and extends tool life under production drilling conditions. The bit measures 11.2 mm (0.4409 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved centering and chip evacuation. The two-flute regular spiral geometry and straight cylindrical shank make this bit compatible with standard drill chucks across corded and cordless platforms. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in metal trades install this bit for everyday hole-making operations.
The 47357 is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in residential, commercial, and light industrial maintenance or fabrication settings. The 142 mm overall length places it firmly in the jobber length class, providing the reach and rigidity needed for general bench, drill press, and hand-drill applications. The 94 mm flute length accommodates typical through-hole drilling depths for structural steel, plate, and cast iron components without requiring a long-series bit. Conformance to DIN 338 ensures dimensional consistency with standard tooling setups.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit for use in cast iron and steel applications. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.4409-inch straight cylindrical shank. Conforms to DIN 338 Series 150 specifications.
Install and remove this bit only after the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck key is clear of the chuck. Secure the shank fully and evenly in the chuck jaws to prevent runout during cutting. Apply cutting fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling steel to dissipate heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping, excessive wear, or discoloration from overheating is observed.
