The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47306 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in professional shop and field applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating, it offers adequate wear resistance for repeated use in cast iron and steel workpieces. The bit measures 6.9 mm (0.2717 inches) in diameter and carries a standard 118-degree point angle with a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust and improves centering at the start of the cut. Overall length is 109 mm (4.29 inches). Two spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Licensed machinists, tooling technicians, and maintenance trades are the primary installers.
This bit is suited to production and maintenance drilling in ferrous materials including cast iron and carbon steel. Typical applications include hole-making for fasteners, tapped holes, and clearance holes in fabrication, HVAC equipment assembly, plumbing fixture mounting, and general mechanical maintenance. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard 3-jaw chucks on benchtop drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand drills. The Series 150 designation and DIN 338 specification place this bit in the standard jobber-length class used widely across North American and European tooling systems.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in cast iron and steel workpieces; compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2717-inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with drilling operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck jaw engagement on the full shank length before applying power. Disconnect the drill press from its power source before changing bits. Do not exceed the drill press or hand drill manufacturer's recommended speed range for the selected bit diameter and workpiece material.
