The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47282 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and cast iron. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating for added surface hardness and corrosion resistance, this bit measures 4.9 mm (0.1929 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 86 mm (3.386 inches). The standard 118-degree split point and web-thinned tip reduce walking on entry and lower the thrust required to start a hole. A 2-flute spiral configuration evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This bit is suited for production work, maintenance shops, and field repair scenarios where consistent hole quality in ferrous materials is required.
The 47282 is intended for drilling cast iron and steel in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. With a flute length of 52 mm (2.047 inches) and a shank length of 34 mm (1.339 inches), the bit handles typical jobber-depth applications in structural steel, plate, and machined castings. It conforms to DIN 338 standards, making it a direct fit in applications where metric tooling specifications are required.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in cast iron and steel. Compatible with any drill chuck or machine tool accepting a 0.1929-inch straight cylindrical shank. Fits within the 4.00 to 5.00 mm drill bit size range category per DIN 338.
This bit is installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and general tradespeople using handheld drills, drill presses, or CNC equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel to extend tool life, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through operation. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the tip is damaged to maintain hole quality and prevent workpiece damage.
