The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47276 is a high speed steel (HSS) jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. It features a 4.40 mm (0.1732 inch) diameter, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a black oxide finish that provides light corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. The 2-flute regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation. The shank is straight-cylindrical, compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks. This bit is manufactured to DIN 338 standards and carries a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved penetration and reduced thrust force at the point.
This jobber drill is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking environments including fabrication shops, mechanical contractors, and industrial service work. Its 80.00 mm (3.1496 inch) overall length and 47.00 mm (1.8504 inch) flute length place it in the standard jobber range, making it appropriate for general bench drilling, drill press work, and hand-drill applications on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is a right-hand cutting bit and is not designed for reverse-rotation use.
Designed for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks sized for the 0.1732 inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and hand drills accepting straight-shank tooling in the 4.00 mm to 5.00 mm drill size range.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation during operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling steel to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges and point for wear or chipping before each use, and replace the bit if the point is damaged to avoid oversized or irregular holes.
