The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47259 is a jobber length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in steel and cast iron. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit delivers reliable performance in production and maintenance applications. It features a standard 118-degree point angle with web thinning for improved penetration, a two-flute spiral configuration for efficient chip evacuation, and a straight-cylindrical shank for secure chuck engagement. At 61 mm overall length with a 33 mm flute length, it fits standard drill chucks in handheld and bench-mounted drilling operations. This bit conforms to DIN 338, the widely recognized dimensional standard for jobber length drills.
The 47259 is suited for metalworking trades, machine shops, HVAC fabrication, and general maintenance where accurate 3 mm holes are needed in ferrous materials. Its regular spiral geometry and tapered web make it effective in cast iron and steel without requiring through-coolant capability. Typical users include millwrights, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, and general maintenance mechanics who need a consistent, standards-compliant drill bit for repetitive hole work.
Designed as a DIN 338-compliant jobber length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1181-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel.
Installation is performed by machinists, millwrights, or maintenance mechanics using handheld drills, drill presses, or CNC drilling equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is tightened at all key positions. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges and web before each use and replace the bit if the point shows signs of heat discoloration or chipping.
