The CHICAGO-LATROBE 47245 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. Ground to a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning applied, it delivers accurate starts and clean through-holes in production and maintenance drilling. The bit carries a black oxide coating that reduces friction and provides a measure of corrosion resistance during storage and use. At 1.9291 inches overall length with a 0.9449-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and magnetic drill press setups. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators working in metal trades are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel and cast iron in light to moderate production environments, job shop work, and field maintenance applications. The 2.10 mm diameter — equivalent to 0.0827 inches — covers close-tolerance hole requirements in the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm size range. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly in keyed or keyless chucks without reduction sleeves. The two-flute regular spiral geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole operations on ferrous workpieces.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in ferrous materials including steel and cast iron. Compatible with standard keyed and keyless drill chucks that accept straight cylindrical shanks. Conforms to DIN 338 dimensional standards.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by machinists or qualified maintenance personnel familiar with drilling operations on metal. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the chuck is tightened fully around the straight shank. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Do not exceed the drill press or hand drill rated speed for the selected bit diameter and material.
