The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46711 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 41, ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating. It is designed for heavy-duty drilling in hard and abrasive materials, including titanium, stainless steel, and high-temp alloys. The split point at 135 degrees reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. At 0.0960 inches in diameter and 2-3/8 inches overall length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is sized for precision work in tight tolerances. Licensed machinists, aerospace MRO technicians, and experienced metalworking tradespeople are the primary users.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in aerospace, industrial fabrication, and heavy mechanical applications. Its primary workpiece material rating is titanium, making it appropriate for aerospace structural work and high-performance metal fabrication where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. The 1-3/8-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for the drilling depths typical in sheet and plate stock.
