The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46453 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built to Series 550 specifications, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at the start of a cut. The 2-flute spiral flute design clears chips efficiently throughout the cut. At 2.5 mm in diameter with an overall length of 2.2441 inches and a flute length of 1.1811 inches, it suits precise, controlled drilling in production and maintenance environments. Licensed tradespeople and tool-and-die professionals routinely reach for cobalt bits when working stainless steel, titanium, and other high-strength alloys.
This bit is suited for drilling titanium, stainless steel, and other hard metals in both shop and field settings. The gold finish indicates the cobalt substrate and helps with visual identification in the toolbox. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks without modification. It conforms to DIN 338 and NAS 907 Type J standards, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent, industrial, and heavy-duty mechanical applications where dimensional accuracy and tool life are critical.
Designed as a jobber-length cobalt drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks accepting a 2.5 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is titanium; also applicable to stainless steel and other high-strength alloys consistent with heavy-duty cobalt bit applications.
Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, or maintenance mechanics using a drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with an appropriate chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent runout. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits showing chipping or dulling to maintain hole tolerance.
