The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46118 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and similar workpiece materials. Sized at wire gauge 48, it measures 0.0760 inches in diameter with a 2-inch overall length and a 1-inch flute length. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. It features a 118-degree standard point angle, a fast spiral flute geometry, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks used in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment. This is a Series 150B bit sold as a single unit with a minimum order quantity of 12.
The 46118 is suited for production drilling and maintenance work where precise small-diameter holes are required. Its wire size 48 diameter makes it appropriate for pilot holes, clearance holes for small fasteners, and fine metalworking operations. The right-hand cut and fast spiral flute combination moves chips efficiently out of the hole during through-drilling. This bit is a practical choice for machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working with steel plate, structural steel, and similar ferrous materials in shop or field environments.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.0760-inch shank diameter.
This bit is installed by machinists and metalworkers using standard drill chucks on hand drills, drill presses, or CNC spindles. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck runout on precision applications. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the point for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged 118-degree point will affect hole quality and increase thrust load.
