The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46078 is a wire gauge size 8 jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and similar ferrous workpiece materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it measures 0.1990 inches in diameter with an overall length of 3.625 inches and a flute length of 2.4375 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle suits everyday production and maintenance drilling. A tapered web with web-thinning reduces thrust during entry and improves chip clearance. This bit is sized and built for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and metalworking trades requiring a reliable, straight-cylindrical shank bit in the 0.150 to 0.200 inch size range.
The 46078 fits standard drill chucks and is well-suited for repetitive hole-making in light to medium steel plate, structural steel, pipe, and similar metal stock encountered in fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service. The fast spiral flute promotes efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill press, handheld power drill, and CNC spindle setups. No coolant-through capability is required or supported, making it a straightforward fit for dry or flood-coolant surface-applied operations.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for applications requiring a wire gauge size 8, 0.1990 inch jobber length bit with a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.150 to 0.200 inch size range per Series 150B specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, or trade professionals using standard drill press or handheld power drill equipment. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed for the workpiece material or force the bit beyond its rated diameter range.
