The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46018 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and similar ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit runs a 118-degree standard point angle suited to a wide range of shop and field drilling tasks. The overall length is 4.25 inches with a flute length of 2.9375 inches, giving it the proportional reach typical of jobber-length tooling. The straight cylindrical shank measures 9/32 inch in diameter and seats directly into standard drill chucks. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople keep jobber-length HSS bits on hand for sheet metal knock-outs, framing penetrations, and panel work where consistent, repeatable hole sizing matters.
The 46018 is suited to light-duty and production drilling in steel, fabricated metal enclosures, and similar workpiece materials on the job site or in the shop. Its 9/32-inch diameter falls in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch decimal range, making it a common size for conduit anchor holes, sheet metal work, and general mechanical assembly. The right-hand spiral flute with a fast spiral configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation in both hand-held and drill-press applications. This bit ships individually and is appropriate wherever a single replacement or stock-up bit is needed.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit in the Chicago-Latrobe Series 150B line, compatible with any drill press or hand drill fitted with a standard chuck sized to accept a 9/32-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck jaws and verify concentricity before drilling. Disconnect or de-energize equipment before drilling into live panels or pressurized assemblies. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel in production settings to extend tool life. Dispose of worn bits per shop safety protocols — HSS bits can retain sharp edges after breakage.
