The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45782 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter L (0.2900 inches) and built for demanding production and maintenance drilling applications. The bit is machined from high speed steel with an oxide coating for added lubricity and corrosion resistance. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on contact and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. A tapered, web-thinned web and two regular-spiral flutes clear chips efficiently in deep-hole passes. This is a heavy-duty Series 150ASP bit meeting NAS 907 Type B standards, suited for use by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and industrial tradespeople.
This bit is intended for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in both shop and field environments. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. The 135-degree split point and web-thinned construction make it particularly effective on harder ferrous materials where a conventional point would deflect or require excessive feed force. Sold individually, it is a direct replacement or supplemental bit for any application requiring a Letter L diameter hole.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock bit for any application requiring a Letter L (0.2900-inch) straight-shank jobber-length drill bit; compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.2900-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped or fixtured before starting the cut. Appropriate cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling stainless steel to manage heat and extend bit life; this bit does not feature coolant-through capability. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drilling equipment.
