The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45711 is a jobber-length drill bit from the 150ASP Series, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit features a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces walking and lowers thrust at entry. The wire gauge size is 41, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.0960 inches and an overall length of 2-3/8 inches. A regular spiral flute with right-hand cut clears chips efficiently, and the straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This is a heavy-duty grade bit built to meet NAS 907 Type B standards.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical contracting work. The 135-degree split point geometry is particularly effective on hard-to-start surfaces where a standard 118-degree point would skate. The compact 2-3/8 inch overall length and 0.0960 inch diameter make it a practical choice for tight-clearance drilling tasks and precision hole work where wire-gauge sizing is specified on prints or job tickets. It ships as a single unit and is commonly purchased in multiples for shop or truck stock.
Rated for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment sized for small-diameter bits.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, or other qualified trades familiar with small-diameter drill bit handling. Secure the workpiece fully before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage at this diameter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on stainless steel and hard alloys to extend tool life; note that coolant-through is not available on this bit. Inspect the shank and flutes for damage before each use, and replace immediately if the cutting edge shows chipping or the flutes are packed.
