The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45622 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in ferrous metals including cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit measures 11/32 inch (0.3438 inch decimal) in diameter with a 4-3/4 inch overall length and a 3-7/16 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking at contact and lowers thrust required to start the cut. A tapered web with web thinning further reduces cutting resistance in tough materials. This is a professional-grade tool intended for machinists, pipefitters, HVAC techs, and maintenance mechanics working in trade and industrial environments.
The 45622 fits standard jobber-length drill applications where a right-hand spiral flute bit is required. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats in 3-jaw drill chucks found on hand drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. Primary target materials are cast iron, stainless steel, and steel, making it well suited for fabrication, pipe work, equipment installation, and structural drilling tasks common in mechanical and industrial trades. The Series 150ASP designation identifies it within CHICAGO-LATROBE's high-performance drill line built to NAS 907 Type B standards.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or stock drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting an 11/32 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron, stainless steel, and steel.
A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck before operation. Always ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation under cutting load. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to manage heat buildup and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
