The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45013 is a wire-gauge jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in tough materials including titanium, hardened steels, and other difficult-to-machine alloys. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, the 45013 delivers extended tool life and heat resistance under demanding production conditions. It features a 135-degree split point for reduced thrust and self-centering starts without a center punch. Overall length is 2.25 inches with a 1.25-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0890 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is part of the Series 550TA line and is intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals.
The 45013 is sized to wire gauge No. 43, with a decimal diameter of 0.0890 inches, placing it in the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter range. It is best suited for close-tolerance hole-making in titanium and similarly hard workpiece materials in both shop and field environments. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and consistent hole quality. This bit is sold individually per package and is compliant with DIN 338 and NAS 907 Type J standards, making it appropriate for aerospace and defense maintenance applications where specification compliance is required.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or production-use drill bit for applications requiring NAS 907 Type J and DIN 338 compliance. Optimized for titanium as the primary workpiece material but suitable for other hard and exotic alloys where M42 cobalt tooling is specified.
Install in a standard drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a chuck rated for the 0.0890-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck jaws before operation to prevent slippage and runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when operating rotary cutting tools.
