The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45001 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials, including titanium and other difficult-to-machine alloys. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, it delivers extended tool life under elevated heat and cutting pressure. The split point geometry at 135 degrees reduces walking and lowers thrust force at entry. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit is specified to NAS 907 Type J and DIN 338 standards, making it a recognized choice for aerospace and precision industrial drilling applications.
The 45001 is suited for professional drilling in titanium, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and other hard metals where standard HSS tooling fails prematurely. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools. The Series 550TA designation identifies it within CHICAGO-LATROBE's high-performance cobalt line. It is typically specified by machinists, aerospace maintenance technicians, and industrial trades working in tight-tolerance applications requiring dimensional accuracy and clean hole entry.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and power hand tools. Primary workpiece material is titanium; also suited for stainless steel and other hard, abrasive alloys where TiAlN-coated cobalt tooling is specified.
Installation is performed by machinists and industrial maintenance technicians. Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully in a calibrated drill chuck before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant recommended for the workpiece material, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and TiAlN coating for wear or chipping before each use and replace tooling that shows measurable edge degradation to maintain hole-size tolerance.
