The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44999 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built to Series 550TA standards and conforming to DIN 338 and NAS 907 Type J specifications, this bit carries a TiAlN coating over an M42 cobalt steel body. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers thrust on entry. Overall length is 2.875 inches with a 1.75-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1360 inches in diameter, matching the wire size 29 decimal equivalent of 0.1360 inches. Licensed HVAC, mechanical, and fabrication tradespeople specify this bit when drilling titanium, stainless, and high-alloy workpieces where standard HSS tooling fails prematurely.
This drill bit is sized for wire gauge 29 applications and is particularly well suited to titanium and other high-temperature alloys common in aerospace and industrial fabrication. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix clears chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole applications. The two-flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce cutting resistance and heat buildup at depth. Mechanical tradespeople and machinists working in production or maintenance environments will find this bit appropriate for precision hole requirements in ferrous and non-ferrous alloys where tolerance and finish matter.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit conforming to NAS 907 Type J and DIN 338 standards, suitable for use in any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting a 0.1360-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install in a keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for the intended spindle speed; secure shank fully to minimize runout. Power down and lock out the drilling machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling titanium and high-alloy steels to manage heat even though this bit does not support through-coolant. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection.
