The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44977 is a cobalt steel jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications, including titanium and other hard or abrasive materials. Built to Series 550TA standards, it carries a TiAlN coating that reduces heat buildup and extends tool life under high-load cutting conditions. The bit uses a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering starts without a center punch. It measures 3.625 inches overall with a 2.4375-inch flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2010 inches. Material grade M42 cobalt provides superior hot hardness compared to standard HSS tooling. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and sheet metal workers reach for this bit when drilling stainless, titanium, or heat-treated alloys.
The 44977 is sized to wire gauge 7, which equals 0.2010 inches in decimal. This makes it a common choice for tap-drill and clearance-hole work in tight-tolerance assemblies.
