The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44818 is a cobalt taper length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and tough materials. It measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces thrust and enables self-centering without a center punch. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web construction promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce heat buildup. At 6.25 inches overall length with a 3.875-inch flute, this bit provides extended reach compared to jobber-length drills. It is suited for licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople working in production or field environments.
The 44818 is built for drilling cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. The M-42 cobalt steel construction withstands the elevated temperatures generated when cutting these materials without losing hardness. The straight shank with a 0.2812-inch diameter seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. This bit is appropriate for manual drill press work, CNC drilling operations, and portable drilling setups where material hardness demands a high-performance cobalt tool.
Rated for use in cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.2812-inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with metal drilling procedures. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the chuck is tightened properly to prevent bit slippage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hard alloys such as Inconel or high-tensile steel to extend bit life, even though this bit does not support internal coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
