The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44811 is a Series 520 taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS bits. The 135-degree split point geometry is self-centering, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. A black oxide coating provides additional lubricity and mild corrosion resistance during storage and use. At 11/64 inches (0.1719 inches decimal) in diameter with a 3-3/8 inch flute length and a 5-3/4 inch overall length, this bit is suited for situations where a longer reach than a jobber-length drill is required. It is installed by machinists and maintenance trades working with harder workpiece materials.
The 44811 is designed for drilling cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium - materials that rapidly degrade standard HSS tooling. The taper length body provides additional reach for deeper hole applications where jobber-length bits fall short without stepping up to a longer extension. The straight cylindrical shank mounts in standard drill chucks, drill presses, CNC machines, and milling machine quills. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation in tough alloys. This bit is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 12 units.
Designed for use in materials including cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. Fits any drill press, hand drill, CNC machine, or milling quill accepting a straight cylindrical shank of 11/64 inches (0.1719 inches) diameter.
This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance trades. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for hard alloys such as Inconel and titanium to extend tool life. Operate at recommended surface footage for cobalt tooling - exceeding speed limits in hard materials will shorten bit life significantly.
