The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44810 is a cobalt taper length drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications in industrial and trade environments. Built from M-42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers extended tool life in hard, abrasive, and heat-resistant materials. The 135-degree split point geometry allows self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing setup time and walk on hard surfaces. At 0.1562 inches (5/32 inch) in diameter with a 3-inch spiral flute length and 5-3/8 inch overall length, the taper length body reaches deeper than a jobber bit while maintaining rigidity. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance professionals install this bit when standard jobber length falls short.
This Series 520 bit is intended for drilling cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium - materials that quickly destroy standard HSS tooling. The cobalt alloy composition resists heat buildup during prolonged cuts, making it a go-to choice for production drilling, maintenance drilling on hardened assemblies, and fabrication shops working with exotic alloys. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral and a straight, non-threaded shank, it seats in standard drill chucks and milling machine spindles without adapters.

This bit is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians in drill presses, CNC mills, or hand-held drills. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within tolerance. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, especially when drilling Inconel or titanium, to manage heat at the cutting edge. Inspect the split point and flute edges for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged point on cobalt tooling can fracture unexpectedly under load.
