The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44515 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 45, designed for left-hand cutting applications in general-purpose metalworking. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and features a spiral flute configuration with a standard 118-degree point angle. At 0.0820 inches in diameter and 2.125 inches overall length, this is a compact bit suited for precision drilling in tight-tolerance work. The two-flute, web-thinned design reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation in steel and cast iron. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die trades, and HVAC sheet metal technicians are the typical installers.
This bit is built for use in steel and cast iron workpieces, including structural steel, plate stock, and cast components. The left-hand cutting direction makes it especially useful for removing broken fasteners and studs, as reverse-drilling torque can back out a damaged bolt without additional extraction tooling. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks, and the 1.0-inch shank length provides adequate grip in both handheld and bench-drill setups. The Series 150L designation places this bit in a line of general-purpose wire-gauge drill bits intended for production and maintenance environments.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill bit for use with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0820-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel.
This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using handheld drills, drill presses, or CNC equipment. Secure the workpiece before drilling and confirm the drill is set to reverse rotation to engage the left-hand cutting edge correctly. Wear appropriate eye protection and use cutting fluid on steel workpieces to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or dulling is observed.
