The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44500 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 30, producing a 0.1285-inch diameter bore. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces entry force and improves chip clearance. It runs a left-hand cutting direction with a regular spiral flute pattern, making it particularly suited to extraction applications where a left-hand bit can back out a fastener while drilling. At 2.75 inches overall length with a 1.625-inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length drill chucks without adapters. Intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication or field service environments.
This bit is rated for general-purpose drilling in cast iron and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.1285 inches seats directly in conventional keyed or keyless chucks. Series 150L designates CHICAGO-LATROBE's standard left-hand jobber line, appropriate for production shops, maintenance operations, and field service tasks where bolt or stud extraction is required alongside standard hole-making. The uncoated bright finish suits applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup is not a primary concern at these diameters and feed rates.
Designed as a general-purpose left-hand jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard keyed and keyless drill chucks accepting a 0.1285-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a drill press, hand drill, or reversible power drill set to reverse rotation to take advantage of the left-hand cut. Secure the workpiece before drilling and verify the chuck is tightened fully on the shank before starting. When using left-hand bits for fastener extraction, apply steady downward pressure at low RPM to maximize the backing-out effect. Follow applicable shop safety standards for eye protection and chip containment when drilling ferrous materials.
