The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44409 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for left-hand cutting in general-purpose metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a tapered web with web thinning for improved chip evacuation, and a 2-flute spiral flute configuration. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 9/64 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 2-7/8 inches, with a flute length of 1-3/4 inches. It belongs to the Series 150L family and is sized at 0.1406 inches in decimal equivalent. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance trades install this bit in hand drills and drill presses.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in residential, commercial, and industrial maintenance settings. The left-hand cut direction makes it particularly useful for removing broken fasteners, studs, and bolts, as the cutting rotation tends to back out the damaged hardware during drilling. The general-purpose grade and standard jobber length make it a practical choice for field service and shop use where a wide range of ferrous materials are encountered. No coolant-through capability is required for typical applications at this diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose replacement drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks at 9/64 inches diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck jaw engagement before applying cutting pressure. For broken-fastener extraction use, center-punch the fastener before drilling to prevent walking. Do not exceed recommended surface footage for high-speed steel bits in hard ferrous materials, and allow the bit to cool between cuts to prevent premature edge breakdown.
