The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44402 is a jobber-length, left-hand spiral flute drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 1/32 inch (0.0312 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 1-3/8 inches and a flute length of 1/2 inch. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve centering on a wide range of workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is part of the Series 150L line and is sold individually per package.
The 44402 is suited for drilling into cast iron and steel in residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. Left-hand cutting direction makes this bit especially useful for removing broken fasteners and reverse-threaded applications where a right-hand bit would drive the obstruction deeper. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworkers commonly reach for left-hand bits in drill presses and hand-held drills when standard extraction methods have failed. The small 1/32-inch diameter is appropriate for pilot holes, small-clearance fastener work, and precision metalworking tasks where minimal material removal is required.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style replacement or supplemental drill bit for use in standard drill presses, hand-held electric drills, and drill driver equipment accepting a 1/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials of cast iron and steel.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotary cutting tools. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is fully tightened on the shank before operation. At 1/32-inch diameter, the bit is susceptible to breakage under lateral load or excessive feed pressure — use light, consistent feed force. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drill equipment.
