The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44380 is a jobber-length drill bit in the Series 150D line, ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. Sized at letter J, it cuts a 0.2770-inch diameter hole with a standard 118-degree split-web point. The two-flute spiral design with regular helix provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. Overall length is 4.125 inches with a 2.875-inch flute length. The tapered web is web-thinned to reduce thrust requirements and center the bit without wandering. This is a general-purpose drill intended for machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals who need a reliable, accurate jobber bit for everyday production or service work.
The 44380 is rated for primary use in non-ferrous metals including aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials, and performs well as a general-purpose bit across a broad range of shop and field applications. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2770-inch diameter seats directly in standard 3-jaw drill chucks on hand drills, drill presses, and mill spindles. Coolant-through is not supported. Single-piece packaging makes it a practical choice for tool crib stocking or jobsite replenishment where individual bit replacement is preferred over full-set purchasing.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard 3-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.2770-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including hand drills, drill presses, and milling machine spindles.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before drilling. When drilling metals, use appropriate cutting fluid for material type to extend bit life, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Always wear eye protection and secure the workpiece. Bit replacement and regrinding should be performed when point geometry shows wear, as a degraded point angle increases thrust and reduces hole accuracy.
