The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44276 is a jobber length twist drill bit manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. Sized to wire gauge No. 6, the cutting diameter measures 0.2040 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling across a broad range of workpiece materials. Overall length is 3.75 inches, with a 2.5-inch spiral flute and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2040 inches. The web-thinned, tapered-web geometry reduces thrust at entry and improves chip evacuation. This is a hand-tool and machine-shop consumable installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, plumbers, and electricians in production and field settings alike.
The 44276 is suited to drilling non-ferrous metals including aluminum, copper, brass, and similar alloys, as well as general-purpose applications in plastics and softer materials. The right-hand cut, regular spiral flute pattern promotes efficient chip removal during through-hole and blind-hole operations. With a Series 150D designation and DIN 338 compliance, this bit fits standard jobber-length drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, cordless and corded hand drills, and CNC drilling fixtures that accept straight-shank tooling.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.2040-inch straight-cylindrical shank; compatible with drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles conforming to DIN 338 jobber-length tooling specifications. Primary workpiece material rating is non-ferrous metal.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify chuck key is removed before starting the spindle. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling non-ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Reduce feed pressure near breakthrough to prevent grab or workpiece deformation. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use; a dull bit increases thrust load and can damage the workpiece or shank.
