The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44120 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, it carries a wire gauge size of 50, equivalent to 0.0700 inches in diameter. The bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a regular spiral flute profile, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. Overall length is 2 inches with a 1-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0700 inches in diameter fits standard drill chucks. This is a Series 150 bit manufactured to DIN 338 standards and suited for use in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling operations.
The 44120 is intended for drilling cast iron and steel in light to medium-duty production and maintenance environments. Its general-purpose grade makes it appropriate for job shops, maintenance technicians, HVAC installers, plumbers, and electricians who need a reliable small-diameter bit for pilot holes, sheet metal penetrations, and similar tasks. The oxide finish provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and use. Right-hand cutting direction suits standard drill presses and handheld drivers running in conventional forward rotation.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit rated for cast iron and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0700-inch straight-cylindrical shank in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment.
Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits for small-diameter bits, as deflection is a common failure mode at this diameter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling steel to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. At 0.0700 inches, this bit is fragile — avoid side loading and reduce feed pressure near breakthrough to prevent breakage. Disconnect power to any equipment and follow applicable OSHA or shop safety protocols before changing bits.
