The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44114 is a jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit features a wire gauge size 44 diameter of 0.0860 inches and a standard 118-degree drill point angle. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned point work together to improve chip evacuation and reduce thrust during entry. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.125-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks without modification. This bit is a general-purpose tool installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working in ferrous and cast iron materials.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in both shop and field environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks across a wide range of drill presses, hand drills, and CNC setups. The oxide finish reduces friction and provides moderate corrosion resistance during use. With a tapered web configuration and regular spiral, this bit performs reliably in the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter range for general-purpose hole-making tasks. It conforms to DIN 338 standards, making it suitable for applications requiring dimensional consistency across production runs.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks; primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or CNC equipment. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent slippage. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before drilling to avoid bit deflection on small-diameter cuts. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed range for high speed steel tooling in the material being drilled.
