The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44106 is a jobber length drill bit in wire gauge size 36, with a decimal diameter of 0.1065 inches. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this two-flute bit features a standard 118-degree split-point angle, a right-hand spiral flute, and a web-thinned tapered web for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust in metal drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1065 inches in diameter with a shank length of 1.0625 inches. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a flute length of 1.4375 inches. It is a general-purpose bit suited for production and maintenance drilling in job shop, fabrication, and industrial service environments.
This bit is designed for drilling cast iron and steel in general-purpose applications. The Series 150 designation and DIN 338 standard compliance make it a widely recognized benchmark for jobber-length HSS geometry. The oxide finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during dry or lightly lubricated drilling operations. It is commonly used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians who need consistent wire-gauge sizing for tapping pilot holes, clearance holes, and through-hole work in ferrous stock.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length replacement or stock bit for use with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.1065 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel per manufacturer specification.
Installation is performed by machinists, pipefitters, or maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or CNC spindles. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits to maintain the stated diameter tolerance. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed ranges for the workpiece material to avoid premature point wear or bit breakage.
