The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43631 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. Built from M7 high speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers increased surface hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS or TiN-coated bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows drilling without a center punch on most surfaces. At 5-7/8 inches overall length with a 4-3/8-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and magnetic-base drills used daily by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance trades.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts both keyed and keyless chucks across a wide range of drill presses, handheld drills, and right-angle drills. The regular spiral and two-flute configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Series 150ASP-TC bits are rated as heavy duty and meet NAS 907 Type B standards, making them appropriate for shop floor and field use where consistent hole quality in hard materials is required.
Designed for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with any standard drill press or handheld drill accepting a 31/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150ASP-TC heavy-duty jobber-length line.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature wear or breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys, as this bit does not have coolant-through capability. Operate at speeds and feeds appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter — consult a published speeds-and-feeds chart for M7 HSS in your specific material. Inspect the cutting edges and coating before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
