The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43603 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision drilling in metal, plastics, and other general-purpose materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and extended tool life compared to uncoated bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less feed pressure than a standard 118-degree point. At 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch decimal) diameter with a 1-3/4 inch overall length, this bit is sized for small-diameter work in tight locations. Machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and general trade professionals reaching for a small-diameter bit with consistent tolerances will find this a reliable shop-floor choice.
This drill bit fits standard jobber-length drill applications where a small-diameter, right-hand-cut spiral flute bit is required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw drill chucks used on bench drills, hand drills, and drill presses. The TiCN coating makes it well suited for drilling mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and similar materials encountered in HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in, electrical panel work, and general metal fab. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust and supports cleaner chip evacuation in deep holes relative to the 3/64 inch diameter.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or shop-stock drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 3/64 inch size range (0.0000 to 0.0500 inch decimal range per NAS specification).
Install in a properly sized three-jaw or keyless chuck and tighten securely before use. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. For best results in metal, use a cutting fluid or lubricant to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed, as a worn small-diameter bit can deflect or snap under feed pressure.
