The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42722 is a jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in titanium and other demanding workpiece materials. Built from high speed steel with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures and extends tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. It measures 0.0635 inches in diameter (wire size 52) with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. Overall length is 1-7/8 inches with a 7/8-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks, and the two-flute spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation during the cut. This bit is graded heavy duty and meets NAS 907 Type B standards.
The 42722 is suited for precision drilling in titanium, aerospace alloys, and similarly hard or abrasive materials where a standard-grade bit would dull prematurely. Because this bit is not coolant-through capable, use appropriate external cutting fluid or mist when drilling titanium or similarly hard materials to manage heat buildup.
