The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42706 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials, including titanium. Built from high speed steel with a TiAlN coating, it resists heat and wear during aggressive cuts. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers thrust, allowing it to start cleanly without center-punching on most surfaces. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.4375-inch flute, this is a compact, rigid tool suited for close-tolerance work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. It is sized at wire gauge 36, equal to 0.1065 inch diameter, and meets NAS 907 Type B standards.
This drill bit is intended for use in metal fabrication, aerospace maintenance, and precision machining environments where titanium and other hard alloys are encountered. The regular spiral flute pattern promotes consistent chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. This bit is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills with compatible chucks or collets. Ensure the machine is fully stopped and de-energized before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck to the depth of the flute shoulder to prevent slippage and runout. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied when drilling titanium or similarly hard materials to manage heat buildup.
