The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42704 is a high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit from the 150ASP-TA series, designed for demanding metal removal in industrial and trade applications. The bit carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating that extends tool life in high-heat cutting environments. A 135-degree split-point geometry reduces walking at entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole without a center punch. At 0.111 inches in diameter (wire size 34) with an overall length of 2.625 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is well suited for production drilling and maintenance work where consistent hole quality matters.
This jobber drill is built for right-hand, spiral-flute cutting in ferrous and hard materials. Primary workpiece materials include stainless steel and cast iron - two of the more demanding materials encountered by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians. The web-thinned, tapered-web design reduces cutting resistance in these tough materials. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks. This bit meets NAS 907 Type B standards, making it appropriate for aerospace and precision manufacturing environments as well as general industrial maintenance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production-stock jobber drill for use in standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including stainless steel and cast iron per Chicago-Latrobe 150ASP-TA series specifications.
This bit is installed and replaced by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard keyed or keyless drill chucks. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck is properly tightened before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect for chipping or wear at the cutting edges before each use and replace when the split point shows degradation to maintain hole quality and prevent workpiece damage.
