The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42025 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in steel and similar ferrous materials. Built from M7 high speed steel with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, this bit delivers extended wear resistance and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The 135-degree split-point geometry with notched tip and web thinning allows the bit to self-center on the work surface, reducing the need for a center punch on most applications. At 5.125 inches overall length with a 3.75-inch flute, it fits standard jobber-length chuck applications across bench, drill press, and hand-held setups.
This bit is suited for metalworking trades including HVAC fabrication, mechanical contractors, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians who drill through mild steel, structural steel, and similar materials regularly. The parabolic flute design evacuates chips efficiently during deep-hole drilling, which reduces heat buildup and extends cutting life compared to standard flute geometry. The straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks in both hand-held and stationary applications. Its heavy-duty grade rating makes it appropriate for production or repetitive drilling where bit longevity is a priority.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber-length drill bit for standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.3906-inch straight cylindrical shank, compatible with bench drills, drill presses, and hand-held electric drills used in metalworking and mechanical trade applications.
This bit is installed and used by mechanical trades, HVAC fabricators, and maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify chuck key is removed before operation. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling through steel to manage heat, particularly on deep or repetitive cuts. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed, as a damaged tip increases feed force and can cause workpiece damage or bit breakage.
